May brings расцвет—blossoming—to nature and to our students, who are flourishing in their Russian language journey.
As spring reaches its peak, we see blossoming everywhere—in gardens, in parks, and in our classrooms. May is a time to celebrate growth and look forward to summer.
Watching Students Flourish
By May, the progress our students have made since September is remarkable. Shy beginners now speak in sentences. Intermediate students tackle complex texts. This is their расцвет—their blossoming.
Nature as Teacher
We take learning outdoors when weather permits. Students practice nature vocabulary while observing the world: цветок (flower), дерево (tree), птица (bird), бабочка (butterfly). Language becomes connected to lived experience.
End-of-Year Preparations
May is also when we begin preparing for our year-end celebration. Students rehearse poems, songs, and short performances that will showcase their achievements to families.
Looking Back, Looking Forward
We encourage students to reflect on their growth: "Что я узнал?" (What did I learn?) This reflection builds metacognitive skills and pride in their accomplishments.
Word of the Month: Расцвет
Расцвет (ras-TSVET) means blossoming, flourishing, the peak of development. It comes from "цвет" (color/flower) and suggests the moment when something reaches its full beauty. We speak of the расцвет of a culture, an artist, or a person's abilities.
This month, we celebrate the расцвет of our students.
